The DHCP server
The DHCP server is responsible for giving dynamic IP addresses
to the computers connected to the LAN ports of your FSG.
If this is switched on, the FSG will give all the information
your computers need to function automatically. For more
information, please read the "Network and Router Basics" chapter in the manual.
Start DHCP server: Check this if you want to run
the DHCP server.
Subnet mask: The subnet mask in use for the DHCP
server. (e.g. 255.255.255.0)
Gateway: The IP address of the gateway the DHCP clients
should be automatically forwarded to if they want to reach
external sites. This address should usually be the FSG-3
itself, unless a different gateway is running. (e.g. 192.168.1.1)
Domain name server: The IP address of the DNS server
the clients should query. This should be the FSG-3 IP address
or an other DNS system. (e.g. 192.168.1.1)
IP address range: The range of IP addresses the DHCP
server can use. (e.g. 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.200)
IP release time: The time between refreshing IP addresses
given to DHCP clients. After a refresh, the IP address of a client PC can
change!
